My goal in 2022 is to finish the main series and I also want to read other books in this world. (Malazan Book of the Fallen, 9) Book Review. And the fifth book, Midnight Tides, is the first time I felt like I mostly knew what was going on (at least, until a few parts at the end). The penultimate book in the acclaimed Malazan Book of the Fallen fantasy seriesOn the Letherii continent the exiled Malazan army commanded by Adjunct Tavore begins its march into the eastern Wastelands. But for me, House of Chains is where the series grabbed me. From perusing Goodreads reviews, these two seem more highly rated than the fourth book, House of Chains. Both Deadhouse Gates and Memories of Ice had some truly epic moments. I enjoyed the next two books quite a bit. While I got the main story, there is so much going on that I knew I was missing a lot. This is certainly the reason the first book, Gardens of the Moon, took me a while and is my least favorite so far. Contrast this with a lot of fantasy series that slowly introduce the reader to elements of the new world. Erikson throws the reader into the middle of his world and trusts you to piece together what is going on as you go.
I was wanting to dig into a long fantasy series, and bonus points for one that is actually finished! Well, I soon learned that while the main series is finished, there are plenty of other books being written in the Malazan world. This year I began reading Malazan Book of the Fallen, a ten-book series by Steve Erikson. This is actually five books.īut hey, its my list and I can do what I want.
